Romantic picturesque Highland setting – with a church right next door to the hotel in beautiful Glen Lyon, alongside the world’s oldest tree – the Fortingall Yew.

Looking for a totally unique wedding venue? You’ve just found it. The Fortingall Hotel is the most stunning and attractive place for your Scottish wedding.

Mags and her dedicated hotel team are on hand throughout – from our free wedding planning service to your perfect day. A Fortingall wedding will be a day filled with much happiness, providing you with a treasure trove of fond memories for the years ahead.

Each Wedding is Special

Each wedding for us is unique – we enjoy them and deliberately offer no fixed regime of menus or drink and entertainment packages – we do not run an assembly line wedding service. We start each event afresh and strive to provide exactly what couples have in mind – whether that might be a ceremony by the lochside or up in the hills, or simply by the 100-year-old apple tree in the hotel garden or in the beautiful church next door – it’s all about your choice – that is our guiding light.

“…we do not run an assembly line wedding service. We start each event afresh and strive to provide exactly what couples have in mind …”

Budgets

The hotel has no set wedding charges – we work to your budget – on menus, entertainment and drinks. Wedding meals can vary from 5 course gourmet to a more robust one course beef steak pie (for example) – it’s what you want that matters to us. Entertainment can range from a local ceilidh band, piano player, harpist, box player or jazz band, to a story teller or comedian. You can even book and bring your own entertainer. Drinks – some weddings require their guests to buy their own whilst others run an open bar all day or even all weekend! It’s up to you – and we can discreetly manage this for you.

Activities

Most weekend wedding parties arrive on Friday and depart on the Sunday. And many of those who don’t have to dash back to work stay on till Monday or Tuesday. After all, there is so much to see and do around Fortingall. Popular activity options include:

Bagging a Munro – Schiehallion – 3,553 feet - is close by.

Glen Lyon walks – Hotel guide available with medicinal malts and sandwiches.

Clay pigeon shooting on South Chesthill Estate – Glen Lyon.

Fishing on the River Lyon – Fortingall.

Massage and beauty treatments – at the hotel.

Retail therapy – House of Bruar is a favourite.

Private tour of a haunted castle – local.

Cycle ride around Loch Tay – hotel has bikes for hire.

Scottish country dance class – at the hotel. Good preparation for the wedding.

A Highland safari – local Land Rover tour.

Chocolate Experience – Scottish Chocolate Centre – near Aberfeldy.

Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery – distillery tour.

Marriage Ceremony

Fortingall Church is Church of Scotland – the minister is the Rev. Anne Brennan. The world’s oldest tree – the Fortingall Yew – is next to the church.

There is a Roman Catholic Church in Aberfeldy.

The hotel is licensed for Civil Marriages.

Ceremonies can also be held up in the hills or by a loch – the hotel can help to organise alternative venues.

Numbers

The hotel can cater for around 70 guests, and with 11 bedrooms provides accommodation for up to 22. We also have cots and high chairs. There are several excellent B&Bs close by, as well as cottages for rent – some are available for weekend hire and as close as next door to the hotel.

Small to medium sized weddings are our thing – it’s what we do best. Marquees and armies of people are not our style. Cosy, family-orientated, intimate, friendly, relaxed and fun are our guidelines. We have found over the years that the perfect weddings are usually quite modest in scale – immediate family and very close friends.

Costs

Firstly, how much to spend is entirely up to you.

Hotel fees include:

Accommodation charges.

Food and Drink costs.

A facility fee that is agreed at the outset. Most hire the entire hotel as part-use alongside other guests is seldom satisfactory, unless the wedding is small – say around 10 or fewer.

Costs for any additional services – for example hotel supply of bikes, guides, flowers and entertainment.

Worth noting that we can offer some cost savings for late autumn, winter and early spring weddings.

Picture Gallery

Pictures speak louder than words, so please take a few minutes to browse through our Wedding Gallery.

That is what we offer here – fun, intimacy and happy times in a perfect setting.
