By Road

redsquirrel 500From the A9 – The Red Squirrel Strathtay Route

Take the A827 heading west towards Aberfeldy – exit is located at Ballinluig 8 miles north of Dunkeld and 5 miles south of Pitlochry. Take next right after Logierait – signposted Pitnacree, Strathtay and Weem. Much of this minor road runs alongside the River Tay – the scenery is simply fantastic and there is every chance you will see red squirrels – this is one of their favourite haunts.

You will pass the entrance to Clunie Gardens on this road – remember this and return to visit. They are inspirational, refreshingly natural and non-commercial with resident red squirrels. A genuine 5-star experience.

At Weem, turn right onto the B846 (Kinloch Rannoch road) and head straight towards Coshieville (about 5 miles) passing Castle Menzies – another must visit.

Turn left at Coshieville, just after a sign announcing: “Fortingall Hotel Welcomes You – Only 3 miles to go”.

As you arrive in Fortingall, the Fortingall Hotel is on the right, immediately after the church.

whitedeer 500From the west – The White Deer Route

Take the A85 to Lix Toll and take the turn off for Killin. Go over the Falls of Dochart bridge and drive through Killin. Follow the A827 along the north side of Loch Tay for 10 miles. When you reach the small village of Fearnan, take a left turn signposted Fortingall, and follow this road for 2 miles. After crossing the River Lyon and the turn off into Glen Lyon, look out for white deer in the field on your left. You then pass the entrance to Glen Lyon estate on the left and enter the village of Fortingall. Just after the thatched cottages you will see the hotel on the left, with the yew tree and church at the far end of the car park.
